DJ STEVIE FLY ~ Caribbean Connexion Show 2005 - 2009
DJ Stevie Fly sadly passed away Wednesday 14th October 2009
It is very difficult, to encapsulate the positive impact DJ Stevie Fly had upon people of all generations and communities.
Stevie brought and left a legacy of passion, determination, encouragement through entertainment education, personal and community awareness.
Although a sad loss, I'm sure he would be proud to know that from his great efforts his positive work will continue - through all of us...
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Stevie posessed a wealth of experience and had been with Allfm, since its beginning.
'The Late' DJ STEVIE FLY was the voice and host of the station's popular...
'CARIBBEAN CONNEXION SHOW', broadcast every week on a Saturday afternoon on ALLFM .
Stevie posessed a wealth of experience and had been with Allfm 96.9’s since the beginning.
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
In 2002 Stevie was Joint Station Manager along with Chris Sumner, at Moss Side and Hulme FM.
Stevie said “The trouble-free operation of the station itself was proof that the stereotype of Moss Side, as a place so dangerous you can't walk down the street was totally baseless”.
Moss Side and Hulme FM kicked off with a two-day public broadcast from the Zion Arts Centre in January 2002.
Stevie said. "To give the residents a sense that it was their station, we put it where they couldn't miss it and where they could easily walk in off the street, bring a record down and introduce it and dedicate it to somebody."
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
2003 was a busy year for Stevie with him facilitating, Hulme FM, in January and then Moss Side FM during April, before coming together again for a grand three-week broadcast at the end of the year.
The idea was, this would give them the know-how to secure them a full-time licence through their application in November 2004.
Stevie had been involved, even pivotal in numerous other Community broadcast project in South Central Manchester;
Radio Longsight | Carnival fm | Trafford Community Radio | Marley fm |
Peacefm 90.1 (which launched August 2009)
...just to name a few, in fact you would be hard pressed to name a station or broadcast project in the area that he had not been involved with.
Stevie was a true pioneer of community broadcasting and a real champion for the empowerment of the people, through not only his words but also through his deeds, he sought to work with disadvantaged communities to enable then to use community radio to tackle disadvantage.
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Many people worry about the mounting problems of the world and as a result become more fearful of the future, Stevie Fly, made up his mind to get up and do something about it, not just for himself but for all those who's life he touched and especially, his family...
He was Stevie Fly, to listeners, Lloydie, to some but to his family he was Steadford, Dad or Grandad...
'Seadford Leiba' (born: 1st May,1948 Passed: 14th October, 2009)
He is survived by....
His two daughters Barbara and Beverley Leiba
grand daughters Taye and Emeche and
his partner Dorrett.....
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stevie’s music taste include: - Reggae / Soul / R’n’B / Jazz / Calypso / Salsa
"Music is my life... without music there is no life”
...SO PLAY ON, DJ 'STEVIE FLY', PLAY ON!!!
R.I.P. Stevie Fly – gone but never forgotten.
