Elizabeth Smart Wedding: Kidnap Victim Married to Matthew Gilmour in Hawaii (Pictures)

Elizabeth Smart, who first gained widespread attention after the 2002 kidnapping, was spotted getting married her Scottish fiancé Matthew Gilmour of the past year at a private wedding held at a Mormon temple in Hawaii on Saturday, February 18, 2012. When she was 14 years old, Elizabeth was kidnapped from her Utah home and recovered nine months later by an itinerant street preacher.

The American activist and contributor for ABC News and her newly husband Matthew Gilmour, 22, met while she was serving on a religious mission in Europe for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Elizabeth Smart and Matthew Gilmour tied the knot at the Laie Hawaii Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The couple were accompanied by a small group of friends and family members. The group then left the temple and celebrated at a private reception and luau.

Last month, the 24-year-old Smart announced that she was engaged and initially made plans to wed early this summer. However, in order to avoid media attention, Smart decided to change her wedding plans to exchanged vows in an unscheduled wedding outside of Utah.
