Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Deep Treatment Masque: Redux

As you guys remember ( or may not remember), I tried the Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Deep Treatment Masque...and wasn't particularly impressed by it.

I mean, as a deep conditioner, it did its job of moisturizing my hair but it left no slip! I pretty much felt -meh- about the product.Lately, however, I have been trying to get rid of products that I have stocked up in my bathroom ( I admit--I am a product junkie) and I realized that I have a tiny bit of this product to use up. On the label, the directions indicate you can use the product as a leave in moisturizer. So, I have been using it in that way for about a week or so.Let me say that I think I like this product more as a moisturizer and less as a DC. It leave my hair very soft and moisturized (something that I wasn't really expecting given my previous experience). So...ladies...I am somewhat eating my words. Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Deep Treatment Masque may be so-so as a DC but it makes for a good moisturizer!

NOTD: Sinful Colors 'Unicorn'

I've always had a hard time finding a good yellow nail polish. I guess it just depends on your preference, but usually I find them to be too dark. This one is almost a pastel yellow, which is what I wanted.

Though I love the color, I hated applying this. I had to use the thinnest layers because it was so liquid-y, and it took about 4 coats to be almost opaque. I gave up after 4 coats because I was so impatient with this nail polish, but 5 would be just enough. But to me, a good nail polish should not take any more than 2 or 3 coats. It also started to chip the very next day.

Regardless, if you can spare the time and effort, this is a great yellow shade for the price. Sinful Colors nail polishes are around 3$ at any drugstore.

What's In My Purse! & Makeup Bag

When I first started watching beauty videos on Youtube years ago, some of my favorite videos to watch were 'What's In My Purse' videos. Naturally, now that I have become a blogger, I had to do it!

The contents of my purse aren't that interesting considering now that I'm in college, I've opted for a big school bag so I usually leave my purse at home and just take out whatever I may need from it. But this is usually what is in it, when I'm out anywhere besides school.

This is usually what I have in my makeup bag. Sometimes it differs, but I usually tend to pack what I know will fade throughout the day. I'll take the powder, blush, and lip combo I used for the day which can vary day to day, but for this, I put what I most commonly use.

This is the lip combo I normally wear. It's not nude, it's not pink, it's not mauve- it's somewhere in between and I've been loving this combo for a couple months now.

The Art of Blowdrying (It's Really Not That Tricky)

The weekend I had the urge to wear my hair straight for a day or two. Crazy right? What's even crazier is that I decided to straighten my hair...by myself....after being out in the sun for the better part of the day. Can you say tired!?

Anyway, I am learning that there is an art to blowdrying your hair. Back when I was younger and didn't know any better, I would blow dry my hair using a regular blow dryer (not a ceramic/tourmaline one) with a comb attachment that you can pick up at Wally World. I wouldn't detangle my hair beforehand thinking that the comb attachment will do the job and I definitely didn't put any product in my hair. I can't tell you have many comb attachments I have broken using that method.

The end result of all that poor hair styling? Big, poofy blow dried hair. I looked like Alex the Lion from Madgascar.

I never really quite knew what to do with my hair after those blow drying sessions. SMH.

Well thank goodness for knowledge!

I found that proper blowdrying consists of 3 things:

1) the correct tools

2) the correct products

3) the correct technique

On Saturday, after washing and DCing my hair, I applied Kinky Curly Knot Today (moisturizing leave in), Aphogee Keratin and Green Tea Restructrizer (I spray this on my hair whenever I'm using heat), and One N Only Argan Oil (heat protectant) to my hair. I then proceeded to blow dry my hair w/ my FHI blowdryer using the method that Salon Cabelo describes (yes with the Denman brush and everything):





The result? Non poofy, non cottonball like hair. If I wasn't trying to go for a bone straight look, I could have stopped at the blow drying.

The point of this horrendously long post is this: when blow drying your hair it is important to have the right tools. However, it's equally important to use the right products for you hair (I know for me I have to have a great leave in and a great heat protectant. Otherwise you can forget it) as well as a great technique. Once you get those three things in a magical, glitter driven configuration-you will have perfect blow drying results every time! :)

Janet Jackson Not Attending Michael Jackson Tribute Concert ...

*Janet Jackson said Monday she will not attend a scheduled tribute concert for her late older brother Michael in Wales because the show coincides with the trial of Dr. Conrad Murray, who is charged in the King of Pop’s death.

The singer’s one-sentence statement to The Associated Press does not criticize the show, as her brothers Jermaine and Randy have done, but cites the court case as her reason for not attending.

“Because of the trial, the timing of this tribute to our brother would be too difficult for me,” read her statement, which was released on what would have been Micahels 53rd birthday.

The show is scheduled for Oct. 8 in Cardiff, Wales, and the singer’s mother, Katherine, and some of her children are scheduled to attend.

Organizers of “Michael Forever — The Tribute Concert” have struggled to line up top-name acts and have been criticized by fans and the late singer’s estate for multiple reasons, including its costly tickets, timing and remote location. Fan groups from around the world have called on organizers to cancel the show.

Christina Aguilera, Smokey Robinson, Cee Lo Green and a videotaped performance from Beyonce are the biggest bookings so far. Organizers had to rescind an offer to the band Kiss after fans and Michael Jackson’s estate noted that singer-bassist Gene Simmons had harshly criticized the pop singer over the years.

Opening statements in the involuntary manslaughter trial of Dr. Conrad Murray are scheduled to begin on Sept. 27. Murray, who has pleaded not guilty, could face up to four years in prison if convicted.

Authorities allege he gave Michael Jackson a lethal dose of the anesthetic propofol and other sedatives in the bedroom of his rented mansion on June 25, 2009.

Jermaine and Randy Jackson issued a statement on the day the concert was announced, saying Murray’s trial took precedence over other events.

“There will come a time and place for an amazing and deserving tribute to Michael,” the brothers’ statement read. “But we feel that the most important tribute we can give to our brother at this time is to seek justice in his name.”

Beyonce’s Pregnancy May Push Back ‘A Star Is Born’

The VMAs belonged to Beyonce and Jay-Z, not only for their own respective performances, but for the announcement they are expecting their first child.

Beyonce revealed her baby bump on the VMA black carpet before debuting it during her live performance.

According to MTV News, Beyonce and Jay-Z, real name, Shawn Carter, found the announcement was freeing because it was hard to keep the big news a secret.

After Beyonce finished her performance, the 29-year-old was greeted by hugs and well-wishers backstage. There, the singer said, “I’m free. We’re all free.”

Soon enough she was joined by her husband, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, and Kanye West, who couldn’t wait to congratulate Beyonce with a hug.

Meanwhile... *Deadline.com’s Nikki Finke is reporting that Beyonce’s pregnancy may affect production on her upcoming film — ironically, a remake of “A Star is Born.”

We’ve learned that Warner Bros was hoping to start production on Clint Eastwood’s musical remake of A Star Is Born as early as February 2012.

But now insiders tell us it “could push” because Beyoncé announced her pregnancy at MTV’s VMAs.

That will give the studio more time to settle on a male co-star for the singer/actress since Eastwood’s first choice, Leonardo DiCaprio, isn’t doing the pic.

The project, which has been at WB for several years, has generated talk of pairing Beyoncé with Will Smith and with Christian Bale and with lots of other leading men. Beyoncé and Jay-Z wed in April 2008: he’s a good actor so I say give him the role.

Back to the fact that Beyonce's pregnant! And her fans aren't the only ones excited like they're the ones about to give birth too.  Beyonce & Jay-Z's celebrity friends have been dishing out the congrats, since Sunday.

Beyonce’s Pregnancy May Push Back ‘A Star Is Born’

Former Destiny's Child divas are working together again, this time Beyonce will help Kelly Rowland select the contestants on the X Factor

"Motivation" singer Kelly Rowland will have Beyonce join her in the judges house in order to sift through talented musicians and identify the best candidates for the next stage of the television show.

In regards to fellow judges on the X Factor UK including, Gary Barlow, Louis Walsh, and Tulisa Contostavlos, it is unknown whom will assist them in their decisions at the judges house.

After Destiny's Child bandmate Beyoncé revealed she and husband Jay-Z. are expecting their first child at the MTV VMA awards show, Kelly Rowland, commented, she was destined to have a child, and she'll be wonderful at it.

"I have known for quite a while, and she's happy, and Jay is happy, and that's all that counts," Rowland, 30, told PEOPLE Sunday at the House of Hype VMAs afterparty.

"I think she'll be an incredible mother, because she's always been motherly. I think that she takes after so many traits from her mother. And I just think it's going to be so natural for her. Its natural for her now!"

Now Kelly is enjoying her biggest success as a solo artist with the hit single “Motivation,” which she showed off with a provocative VIBE cover shoot and performance at this year’s BET Awards, and continues to float above the swirl of rumors that have dogged her since the early days of Destiny’s Child.

*No, Mathew Knowles is not her father.

*No, she’s not jealous of Beyoncé.
