Former Venezuelan beauty queen Eva Ekvall passed away on Saturday, 17 December 2011 at age 28 after a long time struggling with breast cancer at a hospital in Houston. Her death sparks an outpouring of condolences from Venezuelans, including from some prominent artists and politicians. Eva Ekvall was diagnosed with breast cancer last year.
Former Miss Venezuela Eva Ekvall worked as a model, actress and television presenter. In 2000, she was crowned Miss Venezuela at age of 17. In the following year, Eva Ekvall was third runner-up in the Miss Universe pageant in Puerto Rico. Eva Ekvall is also the author of book "Fuera de Foco" ("Out of Focus") in which she states about her daughter “that happiness, although (the daughter) may not know it or understand it, keeps me alive today”.
